Why do X posts with links use credits?

Starting October 29, 2026, X (Twitter) posts that contain a link use 10 credits each when they're published. Posts without links are still included in your plan at no extra cost.

Why are posts with links charged?

X charges apps for every post published through its API, and posts that contain a link cost much more than posts without one. To keep publishing to X included in your plan, we only use credits for posts with links.

Publishing to other platforms isn't affected.

10 credits

A post uses 10 credits once, no matter how many links it contains.

What counts as a link?

A link is any URL that starts with http:// or https://, like https://example.com/page.

Text like www.example.com or example.com without http:// or https:// isn't treated as a link and doesn't use credits.

This applies to links you type into the description and to links in captions written by AI, for example when your prompt ask AI to include your website.

When are credits used?

Credits are used when the post is published, not when you schedule it.

  • Scheduling a post doesn't use any credits.

  • We check the caption at the moment it publishes. If you remove the link before then, no credits are used.

  • If a post fails to publish for another reason, no credits are used.

What happens if I don't have enough credits?

The post won't be published. It shows as failed in your calendar with the reason Not enough credits. To publish it, select Get more credits, then publish the post again.

Your other posts aren't affected. X posts without links and posts to other platforms publish as scheduled.

If you schedule many X posts with links at once, make sure your credit balance covers them all. Posts are published in order of their scheduled time, so once your credits run out, the remaining X posts with links will fail.

Bulk schedule and Auto schedule

The same rules apply. When captions are written by AI, you won't know whether a post includes a link until the caption is generated. If your caption instructions ask AI to add a link, each X post will use 10 credits when it publishes.

How can I avoid using credits?

  • Remove the link from your X caption.

  • If you use AI prompt generation, remove the link from your prompt for X.

  • Put the link in your X profile bio instead, and point to it in your post (for example, "link in bio").
